== Early Childhood Teacher__
As an Early Childhood Teacher, you have a big role interesting children in learning. There is quite a bit of supervision involved and you have to be organised. It also can be a lot of fun.
The description of an Early Childhood teaching is quite simple. The job of every teacher is to educate children. As an EC (early childhood) teacher, you teach children the basics of reading and writing, and also teach them that learning can be enjoyable.
There are many highlights of being an EC teacher. You get to spend time with children and you also have a big influence on their lives. Also you get the holidays off. You get to know many people within the community and there are many jobs available.
There are also some down sides to this career. You have to work long hours and there is a lot more paperwork than people realise. Also you have to change nappies and there is quite a few crying babies. There is also a lot of supervision.
These are the qualifications and education you must have to become an E.C. teacher. You need to get a bachelor of teaching. To get that you have to have at least 42 credits at level 3 NCEA (National Certificate of Educational Achievement) and at level 2 NCEA you must have 8 in English or Maori and 14 in maths.
The salary of an EC teacher is very variable. For a beginning teacher you get minimum wage which is $13.00 an hour. That’s $104 for an 8 hour day and $520 for a 40 hour week. Once you are out of training you can make about $35 an hour. That’s $208 for an 8 hour day and $1,400 for a 40 hour week. Your pay is very dependent on experience.
The average day of an early childhood teacher is quite structured. When you get thereout toys and paint. The children will then get dropped off and have free time until morning tea. After morning tea there is mat time with news. After that there is learning time where they learn about things like Easter. They will also do something to do with their letter of the day (which is a letter that they choose to educate the children on things eg. how to write is) such as make a jelly fish for J. Then it is lunch time. After lunch there is rest time where the older students will have a blanket and pillow and the younger ones will have a bed. They then have free time until their parents come. After they have gone home, you tidy up and plan for the next day.
The career path for this job is a reasonable sized one. You start off as a beginning teacher, and then climb the ranks to a teacher. At this stage some people teach year 1-3 at a primary school. You then become a senior teacher. After this you can become the deputy principal and then the principal. If you are really good then you may be able to go on to the Ministry of Education.
This career contributes to the community quite a bit. One of the main ways it does this is the fact that you are helping children. You are also preparing them for school. It is your job to provide a safe, nurturing environment for children and by this you are helping the children who are definitely part of the community.
This career suits my personality very well. I am a left brain learner which means I am organised. This is something that you must be if you want to be a teacher of any kind. I also don't let my feelings get in my way and this is important. If a child has done something very bad I won't want to not punish them because they are cute. I also plan ahead, which is very important in any type of teaching.
Therefore, if you have the ability to calm down small children, are organised and don't mind long hours, then this may be the job for you.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0CGsw6h60k
